What is Dorn Therapy?

Developed by Dieter Dorn in Germany, the Dorn Method is a gentle manual complementary therapy designed to correct misalignments in the spine and other joints through the use of patient self-determined movements and the gentle guidance of the therapist of the joint in question.

How is Dorn Therapy Applied?

Dorn Therapy always starts with the equalization of unequal leg length, because the leg lengths, which we will consider as the foundation of the building, are not equal to each other, causing the hip and spine to not be in their proper alignment. With the person’s own dynamic movements and the pressure applied by the Dorn Therapist, first the leg length is equalized, the parallelism of the pelvis and sacrum (oblique pelvis correction) is achieved, and the alignment of the vertebrae on the spine begins. Next, the collarbone and neck vertebrae are studied, and finally the skull bones. All joints and bones in the body are brought to their proper positions.

A gentle dynamic pressure is applied to the joint in question to direct muscle tension during movement (directed by the therapist). This results in a relaxed state in the involved structures that allows the joint in question to move more easily to its natural position, thereby helping to correct joint misalignment.

The Dorn Method is also a system in which the therapist teaches the patient a series of simple but effective self-help exercises. Exercises are designed to fit individual patient needs to promote or maintain long-term health and injury prevention.

Why Dorn Method?

The Dorn Method is a safe, gentle manual therapy designed to help relieve joint pain and associated tissue structures. Typical injuries and conditions include back pain, hip pain, shoulder pain and knee pain etc. can be used in cases.

The Dorn Method consists of 3 parts:

The therapy itself and treatment techniques

self-help therapy exercises

A holistic understanding of causal factors

With the patient’s consent, all corrections take place smoothly, rhythmically and dynamically, through a series of self-determined movements, actively participating in the therapist.

Other benefits of Dorn Therapy

Focuses on correcting imbalances in the body

It encourages the use of better posture to avoid bad posture habits that can lead to health problems over time.

Provides deep relaxation of muscle and nerve fibers (helps relieve chronic pain from overuse injuries)

Helps restore the body’s vital energy flow (through stimulation of meridian pathways)

Allows the logical mechanical principles of backpressure and leverage forces to come into play for dynamic correction

It promotes and retrains the stimulation of neural pathways and proprioceptors that are already in a pathological habit.
